EP1 Episode 1 May 05, 2003

A series of poisonings are linked to a local supermarket chain. Products at the store are being tampered with and demands have been made by an extortionist. The detectives' efforts to solve the case are hampered by the store's management who hope to keep the story out of the media, but it soon becomes too much for Joe who goes to the press to warn the public. Nicole rejoins her colleagues at Kingsway as Constable Brown.

A beach party goes terribly wrong when a teenage girl is found dead on the beach the following morning. Joe's life is once again thrown into turmoil when his father, absent from his life for the last twenty years, shows up on his doorstep wanting to reconnect with his family.

Theo goes undercover to infiltrate a drug smuggling operation involving lawyer Ray Jarvis [ep 1.03]. The difficult job turns life threatening when his cover is blown forcing him to rely on a woman he has become involved with to keep him alive. The body of a newborn baby is unearthed in a churchyard after a priest reluctantly comes forward with information given to him in confession about a possible body buried in the local presbytery. When the priest is later found hanged in his office, the detectives' initial thoughts are suicide, but why would a priest commit a mortal sin by taking his own life? Could the two deaths be related? Meanwhile, Joe's new girlfriend, Harriet's best friend, pressures him to tell Harriet about their relationship.

The slowly developing investigation upsets Hudson and nearly costs Theo his life when a surveillance job goes wrong. The skeletal remains of a missing teenage girl are discovered in the national park following a controlled burn, leading detectives into a series of fifteen-year-old missing persons cases. The investigation takes on a personal note for Hudson who is still haunted by the unsolved disappearance and presumed murder of another young girl. Information from a woman who was herself an attempted abductee leads to a suspect who is now dead, forcing Hudson to turns his attentions to the man's former girlfriend. Hudson is determined to get the woman to talk, but how far will the by-the-book sergeant go to get a confession?

A frantic early morning visit by an old friend of Harriet's may be an omen of an investigation not yet begun when he later comes forward to police to report having been in the company of a woman the night she was killed. The detectives are torn between two suspects. Joe believes Harriet's friend being unable to recall events of the night in question makes him an obvious suspect while Harriet looks at the woman's fiancé as the more likely suspect.

The annual bowling match between Kingsway and Monterey detectives is interrupted by the week's eighth drug overdose. It appears a lethal batch of heroin has hit the streets causing the fatal overdoses. Surveillance of a suspect reveals a familiar face — Joe's former partner, Jack McCabe. Now working as a private investigator after leaving the police service prior to being forced out, Jack reveals he is working on a kidnapping case involving the wife of a local businessman. Jack doesn't care much for Harriet who is suspicious of Jack and the whole case. Seeing the kidnapped woman's husband with a girlfriend only heightens her suspicions and calls everyone's motives into question.

When a Kingsway bank is robbed over the weekend, the detectives' suspicions fall on the bank's manager who is nowhere to be found. Fran's arrest for impaired driving exposes troubles in her personal life.

The stabbing death of an Olympic rower appears to be an open-and-shut case after a suspect's quick confession but the revelation that the guilty man's girlfriend accused the rower of rape suggests the murder may have been a revenge killing. Vincent's eager new partner causes him concern and gives Sophie a reason to reevaluate her relationship with Theo.

Sophie and Theo cross the line from work partners to lovers but their budding relationship is threatened when they investigate a shooting, a case whose cultural overtones have Sophie questioning how serious Theo is about their future together. Joe and Harriet are sent on an overseas assignment to Tonga but the trip is not quite the tropical holiday Joe had envisioned.

The death of a fruiterer seems the result of a war between two organised crime gangs. Or is it just personal? Could Harriet be suffering from a case of the green-eyed monster? She certainly seems anything but chuffed when rookie constable Nicole Brown moves in on the close professional bond Harriet has formed with Joe Hill. Nicole was once involved in a steamy relationship with Joe. Now Harriet can't help feeling that her professional territory is being invaded.

A complaint filed against Hudson by an ex-con who accuses him of fabricating evidence places his career on the line when he loses the Commissioner's confidence. Joe's unwavering support for Hudson only makes the situation worse when, with no evidence, he questions Hudson's accuser in relation to a recent armed robbery. Hudson is forced to take the blame for the incident to keep Joe in the clear but in doing so gets suspended. Loyalties at Kingsway are divided as Joe continues his pursuit to clear Hudson but Harriet warns him it may not be possible. Joe's father returns but Joe is no more sympathetic than the last time he appeared.

A security guard is murdered during a break and enter at the fortress-like home of a wealthy banker. The only forensic evidence is a child's tooth discovered near his body, but could a child be capable of such a horrific crime? Joe's father, in failing health, has resurfaced in his life hoping for a reconciliation.

An older couple appear to be attempting to import heroin into the country when the drug is found concealed in their Thai holiday souvenirs. Are they just innocent carriers are were they trying to finance their retirement through drug smuggling? Theo is stabbed repeatedly with a syringe during a scuffle with two druggies in a car park. He wants to keep the incident under wraps but doing so requires him to distance himself from Sophie.

The Kingsway detectives are drawn into the medical world when an anaesthetist is found dead in a hospital car park. Was it a random attack or could malpractice have had something to do with it? Investigations soon reveal that the murder victim had many skeletons in her closet. But so too, it seems, do several of the other doctors and patients at the hospital where she worked. Meanwhile, having sworn Harriet to secrecy about being stabbed with a needle by a junkie, Theo is furious when she breaks his confidence.

When Nicole is called to the horrific murder of a young woman in a remote industrial area, she's forced to examine the way she views crime and criminals. Nicole's empathy deepens when she's asked to imitate Diane for a re-enactment of her last known movements in an attempt to generate badly needed leads.

While Harriet survives the blast, two uniformed policemen are seriously wounded. And things are about to get much worse for the crime-fighting duo as they continue their investigatation into the sex slave racket. Joe is devastated when an anonymous complaint is made against him, hinting at sexual misconduct with his daughters.

Synopsis

White Collar Blue is an Australian television series made by Knapman Wyld Television for Network Ten from 2002 to 2003. Starring Peter O'Brien as Joe Hill and Freya Stafford as Harriet Walker, the series dealt with a division of the police force working in the city of Sydney and the personal and professional tensions affecting their work and lives. In the pilot episode, Harriet is introduced as the new face to Kingsway station, transferring from the "White Collar" federal police to the "Blue Collar" New South Wales Police. Throughout the series Harriet must deal not only with her husband's brutal murder and the revelation of his adultery, but with learning to adjust and fit into her new surroundings. Joe is Harriet's new partner, and isn't exactly welcoming to her as an addition to the team. With two daughters from previous marriages, Joe needs to juggle his homelife, his dedication to the job and his relationship with Nicole Brown, played by Jodie Dry. The other cops at the station are Ted Hudson, played by Richard Carter, Sophia Marinkovitch and Theo Rahme, and each have their own secrets and problems to deal with. The series was axed after two seasons, however it can be found on cable TV both in Australia and overseas.
